Sanwo-Olu inaugurates two housing estates
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday inaugurated two major housing estates as part of the state government’s effort to provide affordable and sustainable urban living.
The estates—Olaleye New Town Estate at Iponri and Megamound Greater Lagos Apartments at Obele-Oniwala, Surulere—were unveiled during separate ceremonies attended by state officials and stakeholders.
Speaking at the inauguration, Sanwo-Olu described the projects as a fulfilment of his administration’s vision for a greater Lagos rooted in inclusivity, modern infrastructure, and community development.
“The joy and peace that come with finally owning a house are beyond words. That is why providing decent housing is a top priority for this administration,” the governor said. “It is about ensuring dignity, security, and a brighter future for every Lagosian.”
The Megamound Greater Lagos Apartments, developed under the Lagos Building Investment Company, spans 3.7 hectares and comprises 21 blocks of one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments, totalling 378 units.
Sanwo-Olu said the development aligned with the state’s 2020 mission to deliver modern and affordable housing solutions for its rapidly growing population.
The Olaleye New Town Estate, built through a partnership between LBIC and Exquisite Homes Ltd, is located on over 7,000 square metres of land and features 64 four-bedroom maisonettes.
Each unit is equipped with modern amenities and designed to blend luxury with comfort and security.
Beyond the provision of shelter, Sanwo-Olu said the projects have contributed significantly to the state’s economy.
“These projects have done more than just provide homes; they have empowered local communities and contributed to our vibrant economy,” he said. “We have also ensured the integration of green spaces and sustainable practices to make them future-ready.”
The governor thanked the architects, engineers, construction workers, and residents for their contributions and support throughout the development process.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the THEMES Plus Agenda, which prioritises housing, urban renewal, and inclusive growth.
Sanwo-Olu urged prospective homeowners to maintain a strong sense of community and responsibility.
“Let us join forces to take care of these estates and set a positive example for others. Together, we can continue to create not just houses, but homes where every Lagosian can thrive,” he said.
According to the governor, the inauguration of both estates stands as a testament to the state’s drive to build resilient, inclusive, and future-ready communities in pursuit of a greater Lagos.
