Pep Guardiola has been phenomenal since arriving in England back in the summer of 2016, winning multiple titles, including six Premier Leagues and several cup honours.
However, the current campaign has been his worst in that spell, with many suggesting his time at the Etihad is coming to an end.
The City boss signed a two-year deal till the summer of 2027, and it has been reported that the club hierarchy have kickstarted succession plans.
City legend Sergio Aguero believes there can only be one man to replace Guardiola in the Etihad dugout.
Speaking to Stake, Aguero said, "Pep has extended his contract and Arteta has been doing a brilliant job at Arsenal.
The point is moot right now, but if what you’re looking for a is forward-thinking answer and whether Arteta could be a good manager for City, I’d say he’s qualified for the task."
Arteta worked under Guardiola at City before heading to the Gunners for his first stint in management, and there's a close friendship between the two. Will Arteta follow in his mentor's footsteps or remain loyal to Arsenal? Time will tell.
